Katie was an undergraduate researcher who visited from Boston College during the summer of 2005. She conducted research on the SSU gene to help clarify the phylogeny of the Batrachospermales. She concentrated on taxa that have been shown to be quite divergent in the rbcL gene such that they may be ancient species or cryptic sister taxa. In addition, she aided us in a study of chantransia specimens from the Hawaiian islands.
